(During filming the engines of the boat were off and the boat was not
moving. A patch of krill came up under the boat, we all held our
breath and...well, you’ll see.
Captain Carl has experience as a marine biologist, and as college
faculty teaching marine biology and marine field ecology. He has
worked on whale watching, scientific research, and dive vessels in
the Sea of Cortez, Islas San Benitos and Isla Guadalupe (off of
Baja), San Diego, Dana Point, Avalon, both the Southern & Northern
Channel Islands, Los Angeles, and Long Beach.
Our Boat - the Magician
The Magician is a 65’ U.S. Coast Guard inspected vessel designed
for exploring the Channel Islands. She has onboard air compressors
and Nitrox system for Scuba diving, ample seating and viewing
areas, a full galley for hot meals, a hot shower to warm you up after
being in the ocean, and 22 bunks for multi-day trips.
The crew members at Catalina Explorer are some of the best
professionals in the business. We have divemasters, marine
biologists, educators, marine mammal experts, and a chef that
makes some of the best food anywhere.
